      Sustainable profitability, increased private revenue, improved earnings per share and confirmation of a maiden dividend payment at the end of the 2007 financial year, were all key announcements at the Abano Healthcare Group annual meeting held today.

    • 10th Nelson Diagnostic sold as going concern

      Abano Healthcare Group, has today announced the sale of 100 percent of the shares in its Nelson pathology business, Nelson Diagnostic Laboratory Limited, to Medlab South, for $375,000 with settlement effective immediately. The decision to sell the shares was made following the previously announced Nelson Marlborough DHB decision to award the region’s hospital and community pathology contracts to Medlab South.

    • 19th Abano confirm change of lab service provider in Nelson

      Following the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (NMDHB) meeting held today, the NMDHB has announced that a final decision has been made on the future of laboratory services for the region, with the confirmation that Medlab South has been appointed to provide all medical laboratory services. As previously advised, the current contract for Nelson Diagnostic to provide community medical laboratory services will finish on 30 November 2006.

    • 13th New acqusitions for Dental and Audiology businesses

      Growth continues for Abano Healthcare Group with recent acquisitions expanding both the Lumino Dental and Bay Audiology networks. Abano today announced the acquisition of the Smile Studio dental practice in Orewa, increasing the Lumino network to 21 practices across New Zealand; and the acquisition of a new Bay clinic in Wanganui, increasing the audiology branch network to 17 permanent clinics and 16 visiting clinics.

      Abano Healthcare Group Limited has today confirmed the company’s 2006 annual meeting will be held on Friday 27 October 2006, at the Ellerslie Convention Centre in Auckland, commencing at 11am.

      Abano Healthcare Group Limited is one of the first entities in New Zealand to report their year end results under the new NZ International Financial Reporting Standards (NZ IFRS). A presentation on the impact of NZ IFRS on the financial statements was held on 3 August 2006.

    • 17th Abano continue Lumino Dental rollout

      More Wellingtonians will soon be wearing a Lumino grin, as a third Wellington dental practice joins New Zealand’s largest dental group, Lumino Care Dental. Well known dentists, Cathrine Lloyd and Geoff Hunt from Allen St in central Wellington, are the most recent to join the Lumino network. With two Lumino practices already in Wellington – Karen Harris Dental on the Terrance and Nick Tramoundanas’ Mirimar Dental - the Lumino brand is becoming a familiar sight in the region.

    • 14th Abano consider request from DHB to extend Nelson lab contract

      The Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (NMDHB) announced that the board has deferred its decision on the future of laboratory services for the region to sometime after 31 August 2006. Abano are now in discussions with the DHB to extend the current contract for Nelson Diagnostic Laboratory, which is due to expire at that time. The NMDHB had initially announced it was negotiating with Medlab South to provide all public and community laboratory services.

      Abano Healthcare Group has been advised that its subsidiary, Medical Laboratory Wellington’s joint venture with Sonic’s Valley Diagnostics, has been successful in gaining a five year contract to provide community laboratory services in the Wellington and Hutt Valley regions.

      Nelson Diagnostic Laboratory Limited, a subsidiary of Abano Healthcare Group, has today been advised that the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (DHB) has commenced negotiations with another party to provide both community and hospital laboratory services to the Nelson and Blenheim region.       Capital and Coast DHB and Hutt Valley DHB have today announced that they have engaged in discussions with Abano Healthcare Group’s diagnostic business, Medical Laboratory Wellington, to provide community laboratory services for the region.

      Wellington Pathology Limited, a subsidiary of Abano Healthcare Group Limited, has been advised that its joint bid to provide medical laboratory services to Capital & Coast District Health Board and Hutt Valley District Health Board, is one of two preferred bids under consideration by the District Health Boards (“DHB”) but that the joint venture is the second choice of preferred supplier.

    • 7th Two new dental practices join Lumino network

      New Zealand’s largest dental network, Lumino Care Dental, added another two practices to its network this week, with the acquisition of its first South Island practice in Dunedin, and a second practice in Wellington. Lumino is the dental brand for leading healthcare operator and investor, Abano Healthcare Group, and now has 20 dental practices across the North and South Island, with over more than 50 practicing clinicians.

      Abano Healthcare Group Limited has today advised that, following a successful outcome to its application to the Commerce Commission, Wellington Pathology and the Sonic healthcare-owned Valley Diagnostic intend to merge their community diagnostic laboratory services businesses in both the Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast District Health Board (DHB) districts.

      Abano Healthcare Group has today advised that it has adopted the New Zealand International Financial Reporting Standards (NZIFRS), and will be reporting future financial results under these new accounting standards. Previously, Abano produced its accounts under New Zealand Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (NZGAAP).
