2013 Annual Report

*Reflects the sale of the brain injury rehabilitation business in June 2012

Our rehabilitation sector currently comprises one business, The Orthotic Centre. Rehabilitation contributed 5% of Group gross revenue in FY13, with the year on year decrease reflecting the loss of earnings from the brain injury rehabilitation business which was sold early in the financial year.

The Orthotic Centre is owned 100% by Abano and operates throughout New Zealand, providing high quality clinical orthotic services. The business is the largest employer of skilled orthotists in the country and is recognised as a leader in the industry.

Orthotics services are predominantly funded by ACC and the Ministry of Health, with the Orthotic Centre holding a number of DHB contracts throughout the country. Our management work closely with funders to ensure we meet and exceed expectations and remain the preferred provider of high quality orthotic services. During FY13, the Orthotic Centre made steady progress in its discussions with DHBs, with a number of contracts renewed or extended.

Outlook

We are conscious of the reliance of this business on public funding and continue to investigate opportunities which would widen operations and reduce the dependence on DHB funded contracts.
