Abano continues growth of dental and audiology networks

Listed healthcare provider, Abano Healthcare Group, today announced the continued expansion of its dental and audiology networks, with a number of new acquisitions in Australia and New Zealand in the first two months of this financial year.

Bay Audio, Abano’s Australian audiology business, has expanded its network to 13 clinics in and around Brisbane, and has also recently acquired The Hearing Centre in South Brisbane.

The Hearing Centre, which has one permanent and five visiting clinics, provides Bay Audio with a strong presence in South Brisbane, and the business will be rebranded to extend Bay’s brand exposure in the area. In addition to this, a new permanent Bay Audio clinic was opened last week in Tweed Heads.

Abano managing director, Mr Alan Clarke, commented: “Bay Audio has been established using the successful Bay Audiology NZ business model and is rapidly gaining customer and industry acceptance in Australia.

“The opportunities to expand the Australian business are significant and we now have an excellent base from which to continue our growth in this market.”

Lumino Dental has also continued to expand with the acquisition of two new practices in New Zealand – Anzac Street Dental in Takapuna, Auckland and Shearer Dental in Oamaru.

Shearer Dental is a long established dental practice, operated by experienced and well regarded local dentist, Nick Shearer. Along with two hygienists, the clinic offers a broad spectrum of services to cover the local community needs.

Dalila Gabb is a well known North Shore dentist and her practice, Anzac Street Dental, will be relocated to Lumino’s newly refurbished Takapuna clinic at the end of August. Dalila is an executive member of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a specialist in rehabilitation occlusion in Brazil.

These acquisitions take the Lumino network to 26 dental practices around the country, and are in line with the business’ target of 40 practices nationwide by 2010.

Mr Clarke continued: “These dental and audiology acquisitions are in line with Abano’s strategy to focus on the private revenue healthcare market. Along with radiology, we have identified these markets as sectors with considerable potential and will be continuing our growth strategy into these areas.”
